Brenda Bailey Testimony

Was raised catholic. Did not go to church other than Christmas and Easter. Never actually read a Bible other than the verses printed in the Missels. Liked to party with friends – drinking and smoking.

Lived in North Carolina – married to Mike. He was in the army and was gone 9 months out of the year. I spent a lot of time alone. The Baptist church was down the road from our duplex. A group of girls would stoop by once a month with brochures on salvation and leave them for me to read. After several months, I knew I needed something to change. Next time the girls came by, I was ready to listen.

It was an evening in October 1982. The “Baptist Church” girls came by. They asked me if I knew that I was a sinner. I said “yes”. They asked me if I wanted to ask Jesus for forgiveness of my sins and to be my Savior. I said “yes.” One of the girls asked me to repeat after her. So I repeated the prayer and she gave me brochures to look up verses. It was difficult to understand. I had a Catholic bible and I could not understand. When Mike was back in town we started looking for a church that teaches God’s Word.

We moved around a lot in the military, but after we got out, we got “plugged in” to a church in Fleetwood. We took classes for membership, joined a prayer chain, went to Bible study, and had a prayer partner. Our children were involved with children’s church. Mike & I took classes to work with the youth, and we did that for 3 years. I sang with the praise team. The church became our family.
