An awesome testimony from Colt McCoy
Colt McCoy was injured 4 plays into last night’s National Championship game. His injury was devastating to the Texas football team and Longhorn nation as a whole as Alabama took over the game and won the game easily. Colt was interviewed after the game by Lisa Salters of ESPN regarding his injury and here was his amazing response:
“Never in my life would I imagine standing on the sidelines,” McCoy said. “I worked my entire life and I prepared my entire life to be put on a stage like that and to be given the opportunity. I worked so hard but I’ll never question God. I’ll never ask why. My faith is stronger than that. I know everything happens for a reason and I’ll always be standing on the rock.”
What a beautiful, BIBLICAL response from a young man who had every reason to question God and wonder WHY God would allow such a injury to happen at the pinnacle moment of his career. Colt McCoy is a born-again Christian and the maturity he showed was the beautiful fruit of the Holy Spirit called, “peace, patience…self-control” (Galatians 5:22,23)

A week before the game, I heard a man on television criticizing Christian testimonies of athletes, saying he would like to see one of them give God the credit after a loss. I hope he was watching Colt McCoy’s wonderful testimony after the most disappointing game of his football career. If it played a role in one person making a decision to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, that was much more important than winning a national championship or a Super Bowl. I’ve been a sports writer for more than 52 years, and I’ve never heard a greater testimony after an athletic event.
